Caymanite - The gemstone of the Cayman Islands

A fine collection of Caymanite jewellery and souvenirs is available at the Craft Market and crafter Launa Green will share a wealth of information about this local treasure.

Caymanite is a rare semi-precious rock found only in the Cayman Islands. A hard dolomite, formed during the Oligocene-Miocene epoch, Caymanite has layers of colours in beautiful earth tones, formed by the different metallic content of the strata. Manganese dominates in the black layers and iron produces shades of red. Nickel, titanium and copper are also present.

Black coral - Treasures from the deep

You will also find a fascinating collection of black coral jewellery and accent pieces at the Craft Market. The polished sea coral has a fine lustre and sculpted pieces make for some very valuable and long lasting works of art.
